Further G/90 Update

Due to a low turnout of 1800+ rateds, we have to run the February G/90 as a, 3-round, 1-section swiss. 1 bye per person will be allowed. 

Prizes will be awarded for 1st and U1800. Amounts are to be determined.

The game played on 2/7 (L. Moreira 0-1 Rivero) will be reported as an extra game.

February G/90 Update

Due to the 2/5 postponement and low turnout on Friday, we are making the following changes to this month's G/90:

 

Open Section:

 

The 1st round will now take place on Wed., Feb. 12th. The 4th round has been canceled. Only 1 bye will be allowed. Late-joins will be accepted until the start of round 2 on 2/19.

U1800 Section:

 

The 2nd-4th rounds will take place as scheduled (2/12, 2/19 & 2/26)  4-SS. 2 byes allowed.

 

If taking byes (in either section) you must commit prior to round 3.

1st Round Of February G/90 Postponed

Chess Mates will be closed on Wednesday night, due to weather and travel concerns.

The opening round of the February G/90 has been re-scheduled for Friday, February 7th at 7:15 p.m.

Friday Schedule Changes

Chess Mates has decided to run the Friday Blitz on a monthly basis and make G/30 Quads its main Friday night event.

In February and March, the G/5 will take place on the 2nd Friday of the month.

Here is the complete Friday schedule for the next 9 weeks:

G/30 Quads - January 31; February 7, 21, 28; March 7, 21, 28
Blitz - February 14, March 14

Chess Mates Closed Feb. 15-17

Chess Mates has the canceled the lesson and tourney scheduled for February 16th.

We will be closed during the U.S. Amateur Teams East tournament, from 2/15 thru 2/17.

Saturday G/30 To Start At 10 A.M.

Beginning this week, our Saturday Morning G/30 tournaments will start at 10 a.m., instead of 9:30.

Macaspac Wins Sunday G/30

NM Arthur Macaspac won the Sunday Morning G/30, which was held for the last time this week.

In 2014, the Morning G/30 moves to Saturdays at 9:30.

E. Singh Wins Holiday Swiss

Errol Singh won Saturday's Holiday Quads Swiss. Ralph Warrick won the U1600 prize.

Holiday Scholastic Tomorrow

Tomorrow, from 1:30-6:30 p.m., Chess Mates is running its Holiday Scholastic.

For those of you new to us or the area...

- Parking in front of the building, across the street and around the corner is free on Sundays. You may also park in the Northfield Bank lot or on Elm Avenue.

- There are several eateries along on Irving Street and many others nearby, with choices including Chinese, Italian, Mexican food.

- Chess Mates has free WiFi, an area where parents can quietly work (in front of the tournament room) and a lounge where they can socialize.

Sunday Winners

Here is a quick recap of our recent Sunday tournaments:

NM Mauricio Camejo won the Sunday Morning G/30 on December 8. Thomas Elberling (2096) and Ramneek Singh (1487) tied for 2nd.

NM Dan Lapan was the G/30 winner on December 15th, ahead of Errol Singh (2114) and Thomas Elberling (2097).

FM Boris Privman took last week's morning G/30. Errol Singh (2115) and Christopher Snell (1993) tied for 2nd.

Also on 12/22, LM Stan Busygin won the afternoon G/45 ahead of FM Boris Privman and Brandon Jacobson (1986).
